![]() If Sony stays strictly on the console hardware route, then by the end of next gen, their gaming division could shrink significantly, since they are so dependent on hardware sales. If Sony waits too long, they will put their business in serious jeopardy. Of course you already have Steam, EA Origin, Ubisoft's UPlay and Activision's Battle.Net, which could all become bigger competitors in this space. Google, Amazon, Epic and others will be getting into the game services space on PC and smart phones, and this will happen quickly. Microsoft already has everything in-place, ready to go, although they are still working on improving the Microsoft store on PC. I would be surprised if Sony doesn't expand services to PC by the halfway point of next generation. Sony needs to hire the people building this emulator, and then bring all of their PS3 games to PC. Sophisticated_Chap 1061d ago (Edited 1061d ago ) Why am i not surprised by that statement. "in the long run these kinds of things do serve the developers." "Your posturing over "supporting" developers is pretty meaningless" The existence of emulators may not, the problem is and always will be with illegal ROMs.Īnd you do realize PS Classic is SONY owned and sold, and thus much more legal and still supports the publisher and devs. They would definately be bigger, not by a large margin since those games are not as popular as they use to be back in PS1 era. "Okay, how badly are emulators hurting the sales of the Crash or Spyro remasters? The existence of an emulator doesn't suddenly mean no one is willing to pay for that product." Nor can you guarantee it in your point of view, history is history.future is future. "Your assertion that there will always be a PSNow or a PlayStation with backward compatibility is so short sighted it's amazing. You can't guarantee that, no one can." It may not be true for some, but there are a number of people that are using them for such. "You trying to push the notion that I want emulation to be able to play games for free is pretty rich. Your posturing over "supporting" developers is pretty meaningless, in the long run these kinds of things do serve the developers. This is the kind of work that paves the way for a PlayStation 3 Classic, or emulation through software like the PS1 on the Vita or PS3. You do realize the PS Classic uses an open source emulator right? Okay, how badly are emulators hurting the sales of the Crash or Spyro remasters? The existence of an emulator doesn't suddenly mean no one is willing to pay for that product. You say there will be a time when the PS3 emulator will run as well and as easily as a PS1 emulator. Your whole argument here is such a fallacy, did you actually think you had a point? ![]() How strong a brand is today doesn't mean anything, there may be no need for PlayStations or Xbox in 20 years. Your assertion that there will always be a PSNow or a PlayStation with backward compatibility is so short sighted it's amazing. You trying to push the notion that I want emulation to be able to play games for free is pretty rich. If that mattered to you, you would all be pushing for a proper validation system.on which, again, your (as in people supporting emulation) motivations fall into question. It does, which is why i support the publishers and especially the developers.and most importantly the preservation of those very same developers. " If the medium of games actually matters to you" There are absolutely no signs of Playstation brand going away in a decade or later, so you point on that is falling flat. ![]() Lets use your somewhat moot logic on this one, there may be a time (lets say a hundred years from today) that PC-s that we know today may not even exist or there are so few they are in museum exhibits. ![]() So lets completely disregard the point in which you can download and play games from PSNOW, lets completely disregard how Sony is likely pushing for B/C with PS5 and possible future iterations. "The point of emulation and preservation is there may be a time when there are NO PlayStations or so few that they're museum exhibits." Sooner or later you wont be needing a powerful PC to run these games.Take PS1 and PS2 emulators for example. "No one is spending the time to download an ISO of GoW3 just to play for "free"." ![]()
